Archiving Finished CaptureGem Recordings
CaptureGem saves finished recordings to its configured video folder. Cloud archiving is a separate workflow; the app does not provide an on_recording_finished hook or automatically move files to an object store.
If you use a tool such as rclone to keep another copy, first verify the finished recording plays locally, whether it is the default MP4 or a selected MKV. Configure your storage account separately, then copy a small batch of finished recordings. Compare file count and sizes at the destination and test restoring a sample before treating it as a backup.
Avoid automatic move, sync, or deletion jobs against the active recording folder. A file’s age alone does not prove it has finalized, and a failed conversion may leave temporary or retained source media that needs recovery. Keep the original until the archive and an independent backup are verified.
Review the storage provider’s current prices, permissions, and retention rules before sending a large library. Check free space on both CaptureGem’s video and temporary destinations; cloud copies do not prevent a local temporary volume from filling. See file locations and backup guidance.
