Streaming & CaptureGem Glossary
Definitions and explainers for technical terms found in our guides.
- Auto-Record
- A CaptureGem Premium feature that watches a model's status and automatically starts recording as soon as they go live. Choose a mode per model with Modify Auto Record on the Record tab.
- Bitrate
- The amount of data processed per second. Higher bitrates generally mean higher quality video but result in much larger file sizes on your disk.
- H.264 / AVC
- The industry standard video compression format. It offers excellent compatibility across all players and devices while maintaining reasonable file sizes.
- H.265 / HEVC
- A more advanced compression format than H.264. It can provide similar quality at about half the bitrate, but requires significantly more processing power to encode and decode.
- Hotkeys
- Keyboard shortcuts on CaptureGem's Record tab that start, stop, snooze or monitor the selected models without using the mouse. Open Keyboard Shortcuts on the Record tab to see the list.
- Proxy Mode
- A CaptureGem Premium capture method: you start Google Chrome through CaptureGem, watch the show in that browser, and click Record on CaptureGem's Proxy tab. It can record private shows you can watch and sites CaptureGem can't record on its own.
- System Audio
- The audio output produced by your computer (e.g., from a browser or media player). CaptureGem doesn't record system audio or a microphone; recordings contain the audio that is part of the stream itself.
- VR Metadata / Side-by-Side (SBS)
- Specific formatting used for virtual reality video. Side-by-Side (SBS) is the most common format, where the left and right eye images are stored next to each other in the same frame.
