Record ManyVids with CaptureGem

Table of Contents

CaptureGem can save public ManyVids Live shows from the desktop app on Windows, macOS and Linux. You don’t need a ManyVids account.

Before you start

Download CaptureGem for Windows, macOS or Linux and open the desktop app. Use the latest version. Keep the CaptureGem window open while it records: CaptureGem records ManyVids in a hidden, muted browser window inside the desktop app, so the standalone recorder can’t record ManyVids on its own.

What to paste or type

Open the creator’s live room from ManyVids Live and copy its address, for example https://www.manyvids.com/live/cam/creator_handle. A profile link such as https://www.manyvids.com/Profile/1234567/creator_handle/live works too. If you type instead, use the room handle, which is the part after /live/cam/. A handle can differ from the creator’s display name, so copy it from the address.

Add the stream

  1. Open the Record tab in CaptureGem.
  2. Paste the link into Enter URL or Username in the Add Stream panel. CaptureGem recognizes it and sets Select Website to ManyVids. To type just the room handle instead, choose ManyVids under Select Website first.
  3. Leave Monitor Only switched off. With it on, CaptureGem only watches the stream and doesn’t save a video.
  4. Click Add Stream.

What the status means

CaptureGem checks whether the creator is live and starts recording when a public show is on. The capture runs in the background, so keep CaptureGem open while it records, and stop the recording from the app when you’re done.

Free version or Premium

On the free version, each recording is saved for up to 5 minutes and you can add up to 10 models. Recording only starts if the model is live when you add or start them, so if they were offline, start the recording again once they’re back. Premium removes both limits and adds auto-record: select the model on the Record tab, open Modify Auto Record under Actions and choose Record Always. From then on CaptureGem records whenever the model comes online and starts again after a disconnect. Turning on Auto Record All Newly Added Models in Settings does the same for every model you add later. Live previews of everything that’s recording are on the Monitor tab.

Where the recording goes

After a recording stops, CaptureGem converts it into a video file, which can take a while for a long session. The Review tab lets you play, trim, tag or delete it, and Open Video Folder on the Record tab opens the folder that holds your files. Recordings are MP4 files by default. With Premium, each file runs up to 60 minutes by default and auto-record continues straight into the next one. The save folder, the file length (Cap Video Segments at Duration (Minutes)) and the container format are all in Settings; the settings overview on capturegem.com explains each option.

ManyVids notes and troubleshooting

  • Creator offline: wait for a public show, then try again.
  • Private show: only public shows are recorded. If a public show goes private, recording stops and keeps what was already captured.
  • Wrong or unknown creator: use the room handle from the address, not the display name.
  • Recording doesn’t start: check that the show plays in your browser on ManyVids Live and that your connection works. Some creators block viewers from certain regions; if a show won’t play for you on ManyVids, CaptureGem can’t record it either.
  • ManyVids isn’t in the site list: update CaptureGem to the latest version.

More help

If a recording keeps failing, update CaptureGem, check that the stream plays in your browser, and ask in the CaptureGem Discord. Premium members can also send a failed recording to support.
