Record TangoMe with CaptureGem

Table of Contents

CaptureGem can save public TangoMe live streams from the desktop app on Windows, macOS and Linux.

Before you start

Download CaptureGem for Windows, macOS or Linux and open the desktop app. Use the latest version, and choose an output folder in Settings before your first recording.

What to paste or type

Open the broadcaster’s live stream on Tango and copy its address, for example https://www.tango.me/stream/stream_id. You can paste the full /stream/ link or type the stream ID from the end of it. A display name or profile nickname is not a stream ID.

Add the stream

  1. Open the Record tab in CaptureGem.
  2. Paste the link, or type the stream ID, into Enter URL or Username in the Add Stream panel.
  3. Make sure Select Website shows TangoMe, and pick it from the list if it doesn’t.
  4. Leave Monitor Only switched off. With it on, CaptureGem only watches the stream and doesn’t save a video.
  5. Click Add Stream.

What the status means

If the stream is live, the row changes to Recording within a few seconds. Otherwise the Status column tells you why:

  • Offline: the stream isn’t live, or Tango has no video for it right now.
  • Errored: CaptureGem couldn’t check or record the stream.

Hover over a status to see more detail, including the reason behind an Errored status.

Free version or Premium

On the free version, each recording is saved for up to 5 minutes and you can add up to 10 streams. Recording only starts if the stream is live when you add or start it. Premium removes both limits and adds auto-record: select the stream on the Record tab, open Modify Auto Record under Actions and choose Record Always. On TangoMe, auto-record keeps checking only the stream ID you added. CaptureGem can’t find a broadcaster’s other streams, so if their next show has a new stream link, add that link as well. Live previews of everything that’s recording are on the Monitor tab.

Where the recording goes

After a recording stops, CaptureGem converts it into a video file, which can take a while for a long session. The Review tab lets you play, trim, tag or delete it, and Open Video Folder on the Record tab opens the folder that holds your files. Recordings are MP4 files by default. With Premium, each file runs up to 60 minutes by default and auto-record continues straight into the next one. The save folder, the file length (Cap Video Segments at Duration (Minutes)) and the container format are all in Settings; the settings overview on capturegem.com explains each option.

TangoMe notes and troubleshooting

  • Old stream links: CaptureGem checks only the stream ID you added. If an old stream link stays Offline while the broadcaster is live, open their current live stream on Tango and add its stream link.
  • Visitor session: CaptureGem sets up the visitor session needed for public playback automatically.

More help

If a recording keeps failing, update CaptureGem, check that the stream plays in your browser, and ask in the CaptureGem Discord. Premium members can also send a failed recording to support.
