Record XCams with CaptureGem

Table of Contents

CaptureGem can save public XCams streams. Recording uses the browser built into the CaptureGem desktop app on Windows, macOS and Linux.

Before you start

Download CaptureGem for Windows, macOS or Linux and open the desktop app. Use the latest version. Keep the CaptureGem window open while it records: CaptureGem records XCams in a browser window inside the desktop app, so the standalone recorder can’t record XCams on its own.

What to paste or type

Open the model’s public room on XCams and copy its address, for example https://www.xcams.com/chat/model_username/, or type the username. XCams and XLoveCam are separate sites in CaptureGem, so pick the entry that matches your link; XLoveCam has its own guide.

Add the stream

  1. Open the Record tab in CaptureGem.
  2. Paste the link, or type the username, into Enter URL or Username in the Add Stream panel.
  3. Make sure Select Website shows XCams, and pick it from the list if it doesn’t.
  4. Leave Monitor Only switched off. With it on, CaptureGem only watches the stream and doesn’t save a video.
  5. Click Add Stream.

Age, terms or sign-in prompts

CaptureGem opens the room in its own XCams browser window. If recording can’t start because XCams wants age confirmation, acceptance of its terms, or a sign-in, that XCams window may appear. Finish the steps there, then retry the recording in CaptureGem.

Sign in inside that window when it is required: signing in through your normal web browser doesn’t sign in CaptureGem’s session. If XCams says your free viewing time is over, follow its sign-in instructions before you retry.

Once recording starts, the capture window runs in the background. Keep CaptureGem open while it records, and stop the recording from the app when you’re done.

What the status means

Once the public stream is available, the row changes to Recording. A room that is offline or in a private show won’t produce a video, so wait until the broadcast is public and try again.

Free version or Premium

On the free version, each recording is saved for up to 5 minutes and you can add up to 10 models. Recording only starts if the model is live when you add or start them, so if they were offline, start the recording again once they’re back. Premium removes both limits and adds auto-record: select the model on the Record tab, open Modify Auto Record under Actions and choose Record Always. From then on CaptureGem records whenever the model comes online and starts again after a disconnect. Turning on Auto Record All Newly Added Models in Settings does the same for every model you add later. Live previews of everything that’s recording are on the Monitor tab.

Where the recording goes

After a recording stops, CaptureGem converts it into a video file, which can take a while for a long session. The Review tab lets you play, trim, tag or delete it, and Open Video Folder on the Record tab opens the folder that holds your files. Recordings are MP4 files by default. With Premium, each file runs up to 60 minutes by default and auto-record continues straight into the next one. The save folder, the file length (Cap Video Segments at Duration (Minutes)) and the container format are all in Settings; the settings overview on capturegem.com explains each option.

XCams notes and troubleshooting

  • Offline room: wait until the model is broadcasting publicly, then try again.
  • Private or restricted room: only public rooms are recorded. Recording stops if the room turns private, paid, blurred or otherwise restricted.
  • Access or sign-in message: complete the steps in CaptureGem’s XCams window, then retry the recording yourself. CaptureGem respects XCams viewing limits.
  • Recording doesn’t start or stops: check that the public video plays in the XCams window and that your connection works. If the broadcast ends or the player stops delivering video, wait for it to come back before retrying.
  • XCams isn’t in the site list: update CaptureGem to the latest version.

More help

If a recording keeps failing, update CaptureGem, check that the stream plays in your browser, and ask in the CaptureGem Discord. Premium members can also send a failed recording to support.
