Network Routing for CaptureGem Recordings
A system VPN normally routes the computer’s general network traffic, including CaptureGem’s recordings. CaptureGem’s Proxy tab (Premium) is something different: a local proxy on your computer that Google Chrome, started through CaptureGem, sends its traffic through, so CaptureGem can save the video Chrome plays. It is not a VPN, and CaptureGem has no option in Settings for sending its own recordings through an external proxy.
Change one thing at a time and make a short test recording. If a stream fails only when the VPN is on, compare the site’s availability in the app and browser, inspect the relevant errors, and try another server or turn the VPN off; Chaturbate, for example, blocks some VPN connections. Turn off any VPN, and any VPN or proxy extension in Chrome, before you start Chrome with CaptureGem’s proxy: an extension replaces CaptureGem’s proxy setting, so nothing reaches the Proxy tab, and a VPN makes sites’ security checks more likely.
The Chrome window that CaptureGem starts ignores certificate errors while it runs and opens with your usual Chrome profile. Use it only for cam sites, never for banking, email or other sensitive accounts, and quit Chrome completely when you’re done so it checks certificates normally again.
