Record Stripchat with CaptureGem

CaptureGem saves public Stripchat shows from the desktop app on Windows, macOS and Linux, and you don’t need a Stripchat account. Below: which links work, what each status means, and what to change when Stripchat is blocked on your network.

Before you start

Download CaptureGem for Windows, macOS or Linux and open the desktop app. Use the newest release.

What to paste or type

Copy the model’s room address from your browser, such as https://stripchat.com/model_username. Links on strip.chat, stripchat.global, stripchat.ooo, stripchat.cam and stripchat.org work as well, including language subdomains like de.stripchat.global.

  • Partner suffixes: some usernames end in a suffix such as @xh. Leave it in place; CaptureGem needs it to find the model.
  • Renamed models: CaptureGem still finds a model under their old username.

Add the stream

  1. Open the Record tab in CaptureGem.
  2. Paste the link into Enter URL or Username in the Add Stream panel. CaptureGem recognizes it and sets Select Website to Stripchat. To type just the username instead, choose Stripchat under Select Website first.
  3. Leave Monitor Only switched off. With it on, CaptureGem only watches the stream and doesn’t save a video.
  4. Click Add Stream.

Recording a VR show? Choose StripchatVR instead. Select StripchatVR before you paste the link, because a link pasted while another site is selected picks regular Stripchat; the StripchatVR guide explains the rest.

What the status means

A model in a public show switches to Recording within a few seconds. Otherwise the Status column tells you why:

  • Private: the model is in a private, group, ticket or other non-public show.
  • Offline: the model is offline or idle, or their camera isn’t available.
  • Duplicate username: the model is already on your list under another name, such as their current username.
  • Errored: CaptureGem couldn’t check or record the room.

Free version or Premium

On the free version, each recording is saved for up to 5 minutes and you can add up to 10 models. Recording only starts if the model is live when you add or start them, so if they were offline, start the recording again once they’re back. Premium removes both limits and adds auto-record: select the model on the Record tab, open Modify Auto Record under Actions and choose Record Always. From then on CaptureGem records whenever the model comes online and starts again after a disconnect. Turning on Auto Record All Newly Added Models in Settings does the same for every model you add later. Live previews of everything that’s recording are on the Monitor tab.

Where the recording goes

After a recording stops, CaptureGem converts it into a video file, which can take a while for a long session. The Review tab lets you play, trim, tag or delete it, and Open Video Folder on the Record tab opens the folder that holds your files. Recordings are MP4 files by default. With Premium, each file runs up to 60 minutes by default and auto-record continues straight into the next one. The save folder, the file length (Cap Video Segments at Duration (Minutes)) and the container format are all in Settings; the settings overview on capturegem.com explains each option.

Stripchat notes and troubleshooting

  • “Stream not available, offline, or blocked due to geographical restrictions”: the model may have blocked viewers in your country. If the show doesn’t play in your browser either, CaptureGem can’t record it from where you are.
  • Stripchat blocked on your network: in Settings > Advanced Settings, Stripchat API Domain switches between strip.chat (the default) and stripchat.com; if room checks keep failing, try the other one. Use cURL for Stripchat Requests is on by default. Turning it off makes CaptureGem use its built-in browser instead, which can work better in some countries.
  • Video server blocked: CaptureGem notices a blocked video server and moves to a backup by itself. If Stripchat refuses one quality, recording carries on at the next best one.
  • Quality: CaptureGem takes the best quality Stripchat offers. To use less bandwidth and disk space, set a lower Stripchat limit under Max Resolution Per Site in Advanced Settings.
  • Private shows: CaptureGem saves public shows. If you can watch a private show in your own browser, the Premium Proxy feature can record it; capturegem.com has proxy guides for Windows, macOS and Linux.
